WTO Advanced Trade Policy Course underway in Geneva

Ambassador Kelly encouraged participants to take a proactive role during the two-month course and to absorb everything that might be useful in helping their countries use the multilateral trading system as a tool for development.

Mr Castro, who spoke on behalf of Ms Bridget Chilala, Director of the ITTC, called on participants to adopt a critical and constructive approach to the course. He also encouraged them to see the WTO “as a vehicle to advance the common interest of the countries participating in developing and implementing the rules of the multilateral trading system.”

The course aims to increase participants’ capacity to monitor trade policy developments, to learn about the WTO’s dispute settlement system and to actively participate in WTO negotiations. Participants also get the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions with Geneva-based government officials and external trade experts.

As a Level 3 WTO training activity, the course provides hands-on training that builds on the trade knowledge participants have acquired during Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

Details of the course are available in the programme.
